METEOROLOGY SYLLABUS

Learn about how weather works and how to read aviation weather charts. You’ll understand how clouds form and why they have different shapes. How do thunderstorms form? Why is the weather cold one week and then warm the next?

Day 1
THEORY: Earth’s Atmosphere, Moisture & Humidity, Temperature, Stability, Atmospheric Pressure
PRACTICAL: METAR & TAF

Day 2
THEORY: Wind, Air Masses & Fronts, Jet Streams, Clouds-Fog
PRACTICAL: GFA, AIRMET-SIGMET, Radar, Satellites, Upper Winds (FD)

Day 3
THEORY: Thunderstorms, Turbulence, Icing, Precipitation, Altimeter
PRACTICAL: Upper Level Charts, PIREPs, NOTAMs

You will learn about how an airplane flies! How pilots navigate from A to B? What are the different rules and regulations that govern aviation?

Day 3
Minimum Equipment List (MEL)
Weight and Balance
Flight Planning
Winter Operations
Performance Charts

GUEST SPEAKER, EXAM WRITING & JOB HUNTING SEMINAR

At some point during the course, we will have a Flight Dispatcher come and speak to the class about their career and day-to-day duties. This is usually a former student who has sat in the class just like you and gone through the same steps.

We will also give some Transport Canada Exam Writing Guidance and some tips of securing a job after the course.
