TRANSPORT CANADA EXAMS

ABOUT THE EXAMS
After the course, you must write 2 Transport Canada exams to obtain your Generic Flight Dispatcher Licence: Meteorology (FDMET – 100 questions) and Flight Operations (FDOPS – 80 questions). These are usually written on separate days. Some features of the exams:
– FREE to write and there are no pre-requisites
– Multiple Choice
– 70% passing score
– 3.5 hours (most candidates complete them within 2 hours)
– anyone can write the exams, regardless of residency or citizenship status (i.e. you do not have to be a Canadian citizen or resident. Even visit visa holders can write the exams)

The exams are usually written a few days after the course, at your own convenience, after some self-study and review. During the course we will guide you how to master the TC exams, so you are comfortable and ready before you attempt the exams.

The TC exams can be completed at any Transport Canada Examination Centre convenient for you, regardless of where you live. You also have the option to write the course at our location, on 2 specific designated days.

To book the exams, there are 2 steps:
Step 1: Create File Number
Step 2: Book the Exam

STEP 1: CREATE A FILE NUMBER
If you have not written a Transport Canada exam before, you will need to create a file number using the appropriate email below, based on where you live. This is FREE.

Please include the following in your email:
– Hello, I am requesting a File Number to be able to write the Flight Dispatcher Exams in the future.
– Picture or Scan of Proof Of Citizenship (does not have to be Canadian)

NOTE: TC could take as long as 1 week to reply. If no reply, check your spam or email them again.

STEP 2: BOOK YOUR EXAMS IN-CLASS WITH US or AT A TRANSPORT CANADA CENTRE

OPTION A: WRITE EXAMS IN CLASS
We now have the ability to hold the Transport Canada exams at our classroom location (75 Tiverton Crescent, Markham), on 2 specific days after the course!

FALL 2025 EXAM DATES: Nov 06 (Meteorology) and Nov 12 (Flight Operations) at 1030am.
SPRING 2026 EXAM DATES: May 08 (Meteorology) and May 13 (Flight Operations) at 1030am.

Our students will have the convenient option of writing the exams at our location, thus not needing to book an appointment at Transport Canada. After you register for our course and get a File Number, just let us know if you want to write the exams at our location and we will register you.

Of course, if the above dates do not match your schedule or you are writing the exams in a different city, then you can book the exam appointment yourself at a Transport Canada Examination Centre.

If you choose to write the exams at our location, DO NOT book an exam appointment at any Transport Canada location, as double bookings are not allowed.

Regardless of which option you choose (writing at a TC Exam Centre OR at our Classroom), you must create a File Number first.

OPTION B: TRANSPORT CANADA EXAMINATION CENTRE
If you are not writing the exams in class with us, then the TC exams must be booked by you; and we recommend writing them within 1-2 weeks after the course.

We suggest to book it online as soon as possible: DO NOT DELAY this booking process as the exam slots may fill up. It is better to have a slot booked and you can always cancel it later if you like. Exam slots open up 2 months in advance.

Book the 2 exams on separate days: FDMET and FDOPS (Meteorology and Flight Operations respectively). Ideally have them a few days apart, although it is also possible to write them both on the same day, if that is all your schedule allows.

The closest TC location to us in Toronto is at 4900 Yonge Street.

Here is a summary of the steps to booking the exams yourself:
a) SELECT YOUR EXAM: Search for Flight Dispatcher and choose FDMET Exam (Flight Dispatcher – Meteorology) and FDOPS Exam (Flight Dispatcher – Operations) on separate days and times. Our recommendation is to book them within 1-2 weeks after the course, keeping them a few days apart.

b) SELECT LOCATION: Our closest location is the Ontario Regional Office at 4900 Yonge Street. However, book wherever convenient by looking at the Regional Service Centers offering exams all across Canada: Transport Canada – Regional Service Centres

c) SELECT AVAILABLE DATE AND TIME: Exams are written at 830am or 1230pm, based on availability

d) CONFIRM ELIGIBILITY: There are NO eligibility requirements for the Flight Dispatcher exams. Just continue past this step.

e) REVIEW YOUR SELECTION and add another exam appointment, if required

f) FILL IN YOUR PERSONAL INFO: Fill your name and email, along with TC File Number (which you can obtain using STEP 1 above).

f) APPOINTMENT CONFIRMATION! If your plans change, please don’t forget to cancel/reschedule, using the email confirmation link, so someone else can use your slot.
